Brenntag is a global market leader in chemical and ingredients distribution that was founded in 1874. The German-based international company manages complex supply chains for both chemical manufacturers and consumers.

The company uses an array of chemicals and ingredients that can be found in the day-to-day life, like cosmetics such as shampoos, face creams, lipsticks and shower gel, foods and beverages, cleaning products as well as car tires.

Brenntag connects chemical manufacturers and chemical users by providing complete distribution solutions rather than just chemical products. By employing the economy of scale, Brenntag is able to offer a full-line range of products and value-added services for their approximately 195,000 customers. They purchase and sell industrial and specialty chemicals as well as ingredients and is therefore an essential player throughout the whole value chain.

The company operates globally in a network of more than 640 locations within four regions. In North America they are one of the market leaders, in EMEA they are the number one chemical distributor, in Latin America they are the only large trans-regional chemical distributor and their presence and network is continuously expanding in Asia Pacific.

Brenntag manages its business through the geographically structured segments EMEA, North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific wherein they offer a broad product range comprising more than 10,000 different chemicals and ingredients. In addition to that, the services offered by the company include just-in-time delivery, product mixing, blending, repackaging, inventory management, drum return handling as well as technical and laboratory services.

The company’s two biggest segments, namely EMEA and North America showed growth in their sales in the last years. Whereas EMEA grew on average by 2.1% yoy (CAGR 2014-2019), North America tripled this number with an average growth of 6.23% yoy (CAGR 2014-2019). These two geographic regions make up some 78% of all the company’s sales.

South America however has a small negative growth of -0.19% yoy in the period (CAGR 2014-2019). The emerging market of Asia Pacific in contrast can show a growth in the double digits with an average of 12.72% yoy (CAGR 2014-2019), which can also be attributed to several acquisitions in the past years.
